NCAAF Conferences: Big Ten

The 2023 football season will be the last season with the current Big 10 schools, as 2024 will see USC and UCLA join the conference.

There have been 14 teams in the Big 10 since 2014, split into an East and West Division, with seven teams making up each division. Michigan, Ohio State, Maryland, Penn State, Michigan State, Indiana and Rutgers comprise the East Division while Purdue, Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Northwestern form the West Division.

The seven teams each compete against each other in the regular season, along with a couple of cross-divisional opponents, to determine the winner of the division, who then compete against each other in the Big Ten Championship Game.

However, with USC and UCLA joining the conference next year, the Big Ten is going to eliminate the divisions, opting to have the top two teams compete against each other in the conference championship to decide the conference champion.

Looking ahead to the 2023 season, college football odds has Ohio State as the favorite to win the conference with +170 odds while Michigan has the second-best odds to win from college football lines with +180 odds.

There are many ways to bet on the Big Ten, but a futures bet is the only way to bet on who will win the conference.

A futures bet in the Big Ten is similar to any college football futures bet. Odds are typically represented by positive numbers, with the lower the positive number indicating the greater the favorite.

When it comes to betting on the Big Ten in the regular season, the three most common bets are the moneyline, point spread and total. The moneyline is also the same as in any other sport, with bettors getting the chance to place a wager on who they believe will win.

The point spread meanwhile, is a number the sportsbook believes a team will win or lose by. The favored team will have to win by more than the given number to cover while the underdog will have to win outright or lose by fewer than the number from the NCAA football odds to cover.

Finally, the total is the number a bettor believes both teams will combine to score in a game. If a bettor believes the teams will score less than the number from the sportsbook, they can bet the under, while they can place a wager on the over if they predict the score will be more than the given total.

Whatever type of wager bettors are placing, they should remember to do some research to ensure they have knowledge on the teams they are betting on to get the most out of their bet.

The odds and predictions in the article are based on the time of writing and publication. They may differ as to when the actual event takes place.
