Desert Rivalry Renewed
The Arizona St. Sun Devils try to snap a three-game losing streak when they visit the Arizona Wildcats in both teams’ regular-season finale Friday afternoon. It’s the annual Territorial Cup.

Valladay Rare Devils’ Positive
The Arizona St. Sun Devils have been through a rough season, a coaching change (Herm Edwards to Shaun Aguano) and a losing record. Through it all, running back Xazavian Valladay has been a positive, eclipsing the 1,000-yard rushing plateau, tied as the conference leader with 14 touchdowns on the ground.
“Valladay is special,” interim coach Aguano said after Saturday’s loss to Oregon St. “He’s a force, he’s going to do whatever it takes and I am proud of him. He’s the heart and soul of our football team and I’m proud of his fight.”
Ranking second in the conference (99.55 rush yards/game), total of 1,095 yards heading into the final game. He also leads the Pac-12 in scoring per game (9.09 points per outing).
Quarterback Trenton Bourguet started last week (122 yards) against the Beavers. He has 1,114 yards passing (eight touchdowns) this season, while splitting time with Emory Jones (1,533 yards, seven touchdowns).
Biggest problem with Arizona State has been on the defensive side of the ball, ninth in the conference (30.82 points surrendered/game. ASU’s non-existent defense has surrendered 416.2 yards of total offense per contest, 236.5 yards through the air.
Arizona Struggling As Well
The Arizona Wildcats have been anything but strong on the defensive side of the ball this season (36.6 points per game). Even in their surprising win against UCLA two weeks ago, the Wildcats saw the Bruins score 28 points.
Sophomore quarterback Jayden De Laura has been solid (3,485 yards, fifth in the nation). He has 25 touchdown passes, but a dozen interceptions (four in loss to Washington St. last week)..
Soph wide receiver Dorian Singer is coming off a big game against Wazzu, having finished with nine catches (176 yards) and a touchdown. Singer has 63 receptions (1,014 yards, six touchdowns) this season.
Junior wideout Jacob Cowing is another threat to burn a defense, 80 catches (1,001 yards, seven touchdowns). He has at least five catches in every game this season.
