Oklahoma Now Bowl Eligible
The Oklahoma Sooners played two games against the Oklahoma St. Cowboys last weekend, or at least it seemed like it. Oklahoma was out to a 28-0 lead after 15 minutes, then blanked the remainder of the way in what was a 28-13 victory over the Cowboys.
“Kind of a funky game,” Oklahoma coach Brent Venables said after last Saturday’s win. “I know we didn’t finish the second half the way those guys would like. Things came so easy, (but) it’s not an easy game to manage. It’s a great problem to have, but it’s not an easy game to manage. I don’t even know how that happened. I know we forced turnovers, and our guys came out ready to play. They were incredibly motivated.”
If the Sooners are going to win this game, they will need a big game out of junior quarterback Dillon Gabriel, who 2,476 yards (18 touchdowns) in his first season in Norman after leaving UCF.
Senior running back Eric Gray had his four-game streak of at least 100 rush yards snapped last week, He finished with 90 against Oklahoma St.. Gray has 1,203 yards (11 touchdowns) this season, averaging 6½ yards per carry.
Raiders to Extend Streak
The Texas Tech Red Raiders had their troubles on the road this season, 0-4 outside of Lubbock heading into Ames, Iowa, last Saturday. Tech was able to break through at Iowa St. with its first road win under coach Joey McGuire, becoming bowl eligible in the process.
It was senior Tyler Shough throwing a late touchdown pass to Baylor Cupp in a 14-10 win against the Cyclones. He was 15-of-21 (141 yards) and that touchdown, gave him 626 yards (four touchdowns) on the season. He’s had 387 yards (two touchdowns) during the current two-game win streak by Tech.
Senior wide receiver Xavier White leads five Texas Tech receivers, each with over 300 yards this season. He’s at 41 catches (557 yards, three touchdowns) to date. Freshman Jerand Bradley has 35 receptions (483 yards, four touchdowns).
Running backs Sarodorick Thompson and Tahj Brooks have split the carries. Thompson has 584 yards (four touchdowns), while Brooks is right behind (575 yards, seven touchdowns).
