The Uggos Have All the Privilege
Do I shave my head? Do I make myself less attractive? – Eiza Gonzalez
It’s hardly a secret that Eiza Gonzalez is one of the most beautiful women on the planet. With the premiere of her upcoming film, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, taking place on Monday, we are reminded of the time she made entertainment news headlines by telling how her goddess-tier beauty has gotten in the way of her success.

To refresh your memory, a few weeks ago, Gonzalez was the subject of celebrity rumors when she told Instyle: “I remember being [told for] so many projects, ‘She’s too pretty for the role. She’s too hot for the role.’ Then I’d just be like, What is Margot Robbie? She’s the hottest, most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen in my life!’
She went on to speak of how she had an identity crisis at this point in her career. ‘I was like, “Do I shave my head? Do I make myself less attractive? Do I make myself more attractive? Do I not dress super-hot or do I dress super-hot or do I cover myself all the time?”‘

As someone who considers themselves to be an average individual, it’s difficult not to read these comments with no other context and find them amusingly disconnected from reality. It’s pretty obvious that her physical appearance plays a significant role in her achievements, which is why hearing her speak about it in a negative light elicits a chuckle from us.
Additionally, it’s doubtful that shaving her head would have the desired effect. She’s just that gorgeous. Perhaps if she had a time machine and never got a nose job, things may have turned out differently. But let’s be real, she was still a 10 even before that.
At this point, her only option may be extensive reconstructive surgery that alters her facial symmetry. But until then, it seems she will have to learn to accept her situation (you know, the one where she has devoted fans, plenty of money, and significant social capital).

Jokes Aside, Eiza May Have a Point
Let’s set aside the jokes for a moment. I truly believe that Eiza Gonzalez has faced setbacks in her career due to her stunning beauty, and I can understand how it may have affected her negatively. We’ve seen similar complaints from Megan Fox.
That being said, it almost has the feel of an able-bodied person griping about never getting a chance to park in a handicap-accessible spot. It’s just kind of delulu considering the massive privilege attractiveness carries with it.
It would be interesting to know how many Eiza Gonzalez movies and TV shows she would have been cast in if she was average-looking. Before you start barking at me – that’s not an indictment on her talent– instead, it’s a comment on the advantages that being attractive affords people in our society.

All I’m saying is it doesn’t take a lot of cognitive overhead to realize that if given the choice between being extremely attractive or just average-looking, most people would choose the former.
