Manchester City vs Bournemouth Predictions, Preview, Stream, Odds & Picks, Aug. 13

It's the Home Debut for English Premier League Champs

It was great start for City

While Manchester United is plunged into chaos. its neighbor is happy and relaxed. Manchester City had no trouble fulfilling its role as soccer favorite in Matchday 1. Now, the Citizens will face a feisty Saturday underdog in Bournemouth. Cherries weren’t favored on Matchday 1, but weren’t intimidated, either, pulling off the stunner.

Both teams also managed clean sheets as well. Prior to the start of the season, Bournemouth weren’t seen as a threat, especially not to Manchester City. Well, some things have changed.

City Released the Beast

One game. That was all Erling Haaland needed to make an impact in the English Premier League. After missing a clear chance in the Community Shield against Liverpool, which Manchester City losing, 3-1, the Norwegian led the Citizens to a 2-0 victory over West Ham United. He ended with both goals, leading the Golden Boot race. He’s now offering a +150 price to win. Mohamed Salah is next, priced at +450.

We did expect more from the Hammers, but the Citizens dominated, start to finish. They ended with 76 percent possession, allowed just six shots (only one on target).

City didn’t even start Kalvin Phillips, John Stones, Julian Alvarez, Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez. That’s practically another world-class starting unit right there.

So, last season, the Citizens were an even more reliable soccer pick at home. They finished with a 15-2-2 record, 58 goals for and 15 against. That’s 17 more goals at Etihad Stadium than on the road.

Manager Pep Guardiola has only one major injury concern. Spanish international centre-back Aymeric Laporte won’t be available, recovering from a knee injury. Having just about the entire squad available is another reason the Citizens are at -1200 in the sportsbook. They did open at -800, meaning their favoritism has never waned.

Welcome Back, Bournemouth

A season ago, Bournemouth finished second in the Championship. That was huge reason for them to be underdogs against Aston Villa in Matchday 1, despite the game being at home. Well, the Cherries took offense at that, responding with a 2-0 victory.

Jefferson Lerma scored in the opening two minutes, while Kieffer Moore closed the sale with only 10 minutes left. Cherries lost possession with only 34%, but ended taking one more shot on target than the Villagers.

“We’re a newly-promoted team and we’re going into the hardest and most-financed league in the world. We know the challenges and what we’re going to face. We need to show our physicality, we need to be horrible to play against,” manager Scott Parker explained after the game.

He’s not wrong. That’s why the Cherries offering a +3500 price should not shock..

The Cherries continue to bringing reinforcements for a good fight all season long. Recently, they signed experienced goalkeeper Neto Murara (Barcelona). They also signed centre-back Marcos Senesi (Feyenoord). He was crucial in Feyenoord reaching the UEFA Conference League Final last season.

Cherries finished with an 11-6-5 road record last season. They didn’t face teams such as Manchester City, but that shows they always put forth the effort, regardless of where they play.

Bournemouth hasn’t been able to defeat Manchester City, but the Cherries scored in seven of their previous 15 meetings. Expect that to happen once again.
