English Premier League – Overview
The English Premier League (EPL) is the most prestigious and popular soccer league in Europe – and maybe around the world. Soccer is one of the most popular and world-renowned sports, and for good reason. We don’t usually see the impact soccer has in other countries as we tend to be wrapped up in our North American sports like the NFL, NBA, and MLB.
Betting on English Premier League odds has always been popular due to the elite athleticism and top talent showcased in the EPL. Each season, the Premier League fields 20 teams that play from August until May and the team with the best record at the end of the season earns the title.
North American sports tend to have playoff series and tournaments, so this format is definitely different and makes futures betting a little bit challenging. Each team will play 38 games in a season, playing each of the other 19 clubs twice (once as home and once as away).
The other aspect of EPL that is different to North Americans is the relegation and promotion of teams. Each season, the bottom three teams are relegated to the EFL Championship, and the top two teams are promoted to Premier League. Being on one of those lower-ranking teams would definitely be a bit of a roller coaster ride potentially not knowing which league you’ll be playing in the following season.
The 2021-2022 English Premier League starts on August 13, 2021, starting with a match between Arsenal and Brentford. Most English Premier League games will fall on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the season, which makes for great opportunities to create EPL parlays and some other great betting opportunities.

History of the Premier League
While Premier League is technically only 29 years old, forming in 1992, it has become one of the most popular and prestigious leagues. The league was founded due to clubs wanting to break away from the EFL and blossomed into the juggernaut that it is today.
They signed a lucrative television deal and became the most-watched sport on television. The ‘big five’ clubs, Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, and Arsenal, moved from the EFL First Division to Premier League and were a part of the negotiations in creating the EPL.
22 clubs ended up resigning from the EFL First Division and joined the EPL, which left the EFL with only three divisions instead of four. The relegation and promotion remained the same between the two leagues after the dissolve of the First Division, the only change was that Second Division was now the new First Division.
