Overview

The Metal Ligaen or the Denmark Superisligaen or even the Eliteserien is the professional hockey league based out of Denmark. The premier Danish league was founded in 1954 and has changed many times over the years. The League is currently sponsored by Dansk Metal, coining the Metal Ligaen name. There are a total of 9 teams in the Denmark Superisligaen, and in recent years, the quality of play has improved, making it one of the better European leagues, frequently compared to the Swedish League or the German League.

Each team will play the other eight teams five times, for a 45 game long season. The top eight teams will head to the playoffs, leaving one team out of contention. The playoffs consist of three rounds which include quarterfinals, semi-finals, and finals. The prize for the league is Prince Henrik’s Cup.
