HOW TO BET ON NFL ALTERNATIVE LINES

Understanding Alternative NFL Spreads: A Lucrative Betting Strategy

Most people are familiar with point spreads and moneylines regarding betting. But BetUS offers Alternative NFL spreads on games. We will go over what it means for people unfamiliar with Alternative NFL spreads and strategies while betting on Alternative NFL spreads.

Alternative spreads are different point spreads for a team. The most common and most rewarding Alternative NFL spreads give the favorite team points instead of getting points for betting on the underdog. There are also Alternative NFL spreads that give the underdog more points.

A perfect example of using Alternative NFL spreads would be Super Bowl LV. In the Super Bowl LV match-up of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Kansas City was a three-point favorite to win. However, Tom Brady and the Buccaneers were on a winning streak. With their shocking wins against the Saints and the Packers, some people felt Brady and the Bucs should be the favorite.

People who thought Brady and the Bucs could win big did an Alternative NFL spread on the Buccaneers. They gave points to the Chiefs, and as long as it was 21 points or fewer that they gave the Chiefs, their bets turned into winners. By taking the underdogs AND giving away points to the favorite, they won more money that way than betting on the money line.

Captivating Examples and Strategies

Alternative NFL spreads can lead to a bigger payout if the underdog can cover the alternative spread. This can be very risky, as the underdogs usually don’t win outright. But in the case of the Buccaneers playoff run-up to Super Bowl 55, they were the underdogs that kept on winning.

Another variation of Alternative NFL spreads is where the favorite gives up more points to the underdog team. A great example would be Super Bowl LIV, where the Kansas City Chiefs were 1-point favorites against the San Francisco 49ers. People that wagered on the Alternative NFL spread of the Chiefs giving up 10 points would have won big. Mahomes was putting up huge numbers on the scoreboard in the games for the Chiefs. So it would make sense to give away more than just one point to their opponent.

Here are some important things to study before doing an Alternative NFL spread:

  • Does the team have a record of winning as the underdog?
  • Is the team on a winning streak that isn’t being accounted for?
  • Does the team have a history of winning by more than what the spread is on their games?
  • Does the team have any injuries to key players that may hurt their chances of winning?
  • Does the opponent have any injuries to key players that may prevent them from winning?
  • Are you giving up more points than what a team usually wins by?
  • Is the opponent on a losing streak that may continue?

The most important thing about Alternative NFL spreads is not to give up too many points. Of course, the more points you give up, the bigger the payoff. Payoff amount shouldn’t be the main focus of your betting decision. Stick to what a team does, has going for them, what the opponent lacks, and if your team has the best chance to cover the Alternative NFL spread. This will help you make a bet with the best chance of winning.

The alternative odds work the same as any other NFL odds. If you give away more points to an underdog, your odds for a return go up. It is also the same if you take the underdog and give points to the favorite.
Negative odds mean that a team is favored to win or cover the point spread by more than what’s given. Negative odds mean that there is also a smaller return on your bet. A team with negative odds isn’t a sure thing, but it does mean they are more favored to win.
