Brief History

The Mexican Primera Division (Mexico First Division), officially known as Liga MX, is the top level of the Mexican football league system. It was founded in 1943 with six teams and currently has 18 teams.

Each team plays two games against each other team, one at home and one away, for 34 games. The team with the most points at the end of the season is crowned champion.

The first Primera Division tournament was played in 1943-44, and the championship has been awarded annually since 1944.

The most successful club is Club América, followed by Guadalajara and Toluca.

Main Events During the Year

The Mexican Primera Division is the top Mexican professional football division. The season starts in late January or early February and ends in late May or early June.

There are three main events during the year:

  • The Apertura, which takes place from July to December;
  • The Clausura, which takes place from January to May.

The Apertura is the first half of the season, during which each team plays 17 matches (10 home games and seven away games).

The Clausura is the second half of the season, during which each team plays 17 matches (seven home games and 10 away games). The Liga MX playoffs and final take place in May or June.

The top eight teams from the Apertura and Clausura seasons compete in a single-elimination tournament in the playoffs.

The quarterfinals are played between the first and fourth-place teams, the semifinals are played between the second and third-place teams, and the final is played between the two semifinal winners.

The winner of the final determines the Liga MX champion. If the two finalists are from the same division, then the winner of the Apertura tournament is declared champion.

If the two finalists are from different divisions, then the team with the best aggregate record over the two tournaments is declared champion.

How the Championship Works

The Mexico Primera Division is the top-level professional football league in Mexico. The league is divided into Liga MX and Ascenso MX.

Liga MX is the first division of Mexican football and consists of 18 clubs. The clubs are divided into three groups of six, with each team playing every other team in their group home and away.

At the end of the season, the top two teams from each group automatically qualify for the playoffs, while the teams in third and fourth place go into a knockout stage to determine the last four playoff spots.

The Ascenso MX is the second division of Mexican football and consists of 18 clubs. The clubs are divided into three groups of six, with each team playing every other team in their group home and away.

At the end of the season, the top two teams from each group automatically qualify for the playoffs, while the teams in third and fourth place go into a knockout stage to determine the last four playoff spots.

Currently, like in MLS, there’s not any promotion and relegation system in Mexican soccer.

The winner of Liga MX is crowned champion of Mexico and qualifies for the following year’s CONCACAF Champions League.

As you can see, the Mexican football system is quite complex with two different divisions and a knockout stage to determine the last four playoff spots in each.

But with a bit of understanding, you’ll be able to follow the action like a pro! You can check out on soccer picks section to get Liga MX predictions and more content about other soccer leagues.

Finals

The Mexico Primera finals are a football competition played in Mexico to determine the champion of the Mexico Primera Division, the top level of Mexican football.

The finals are contested by the two teams that finish at the top of the regular-season standings and are typically played in a two-legged format, with each team playing one home and one away match.

If the two teams are level on points after the two matches, the team with the better goal difference is crowned champion.

You may be wondering how you can bet on the Liga MX odds. The truth is, it’s not as difficult as it may seem. There are a few different ways that you can do it.

To start with, you can bet on the outright winner of the league. This is usually done before the season starts, and you can usually find good soccer odds for Liga MX on this bet.

You can also bet on who will finish in the top four places. This is a great bet to make if you think you know which teams will be challenging for the title.

Another way to bet on the Mexico Primera Division is by betting on individual games. This is a great way to make some money if you know a lot about the teams and players involved.

If you’re looking for a more risky bet, you can try betting on the relegation battle. This is where you bet on which team will be relegated at the end of the season.

Pachuca is the favorite to win the 2022 Mexico Primera Division Championship. They have been dominant in recent years. They will be the team to beat in the upcoming season.
When betting on the Liga MX, you’ll usually see two types of odds: fractional and decimal. Fractional odds are written as a ratio, 2/1, while decimal odds are just a number, like 3.00.

The number on the left (2/1 or 3.00) is what you’ll need to bet to win $1 (or the equivalent in your currency). So, if you put down a $10 bet at 2/1 odds and your team wins, you’ll get back $20 – your original stake plus the $10 you won.

The number on the right (1, 3) is the probability of that outcome happening. In other words, it’s the likelihood of your team winning. So, your team has a 33% chance of winning in the example above.

When it comes to decimal odds, anything over 2.00 is seen as a good bet, as there’s less than a 50% chance of your team winning. In contrast, anything under 1.50 is seen as a very risky bet, as it means there’s more than a 66% chance of your team winning.
