Australia NBL Betting Odds & Lines

Overview

The NBL or National Basketball League is based in Australia, and is the main men’s professional basketball league with nine teams in Australia and one team based in New Zealand. The NBL Australia is a part of FIBA, and falls under the FIBA Oceania confederation.

Current NBL Teams:

  • Adelaide 36ers
  • Brisbane Bullets
  • Cairns Taipans
  • Illawarra Hawks
  • Melbourne United
  • New Zealand Breakers
  • Perth Wildcats
  • South East Melbourne Phoenix
  • Sydney Kings
  • Tasmania JackJumpers

The Australian NBL has been around for 43 years, founded in 1979. The season consists of 28 games during the regular season, with each team playing 14 home and 14 away games. The season runs from October to February which means it tends to be overlooked in North America as we have a full slate of sports during that time frame.

The NBL Cup is a mid-season tournament that also contributes to the team’s final standings. This NBL Cup tournament is new, only founded in 2020-2021. At the end of the regular season, the top four teams head to the Finals. The Perth Wildcats have the most championship titles with ten, their last being in 2020. Melbourne United follows them with six titles, their last was last year in 2021.

Annually since 2017, there is an NBLxNBA crossover, which is a short series between three to seven games between NBL teams and the NBA before the NBA preseason starts. However, this hasn’t been contested since the 2019-2020 season due to COVID-19 restrictions. Utah Jazz has attended all three competitions, alongside other NBA teams like the Phoenix Suns, LA Clippers, and OKC Thunder who have two appearances each.

How To Bet On The Australia NBL

If you’re planning to start betting on the Australian NBL, you’re in the right place as we have a great selection of odds and lines for each game. While we may not have a comprehensive offering like we do with the NBA, we have a great selection of popular NBL betting options for you to choose from, including:

Moneyline Wagers: these betting types allow you to bet on the outright winner of the game. That’s all you have to do. Bet on the team you believe will win a game, and put your money on them. The odds will reflect how likely they are to win the game outright.

Point Spreads: these betting options are a little more complicated. The point spread wager assigns the favored team a handicap – a number of points that team will need to win by to cover the spread. The underdog will need to win the game or lose by less than the point spread. The favorite is easy to spot, they will have a negative number as a point spread, and the underdog will have a positive number.

Over/Under or Totals bets are a great betting option if you aren’t overly familiar with the teams playing in the NBL. You simply have to look at the set line, and decide if you think the total number of points for both teams collectively is going to be over or under the oddsmakers line.

While you may not see a huge selection of NBL props like you would in the NBA, you can still manage to find a few great options here and there. Prop wagers allow you to bet on circumstances that have nothing to do with who wins the game. You can bet on a player prop which could be how many points a player might score, or a team prop, which indicates a team event like how many points a team might score in the third quarter.

Let’s not forget about the biggest bet you’ll place during the entire NBL League season: your futures wager on which team will win the title. A futures wager allows you to bet on the team you think will win the championship title at any point during the season. The earlier you place this wager the better. The odds for each of the 10 teams will be listed with odds based on how likely they are to win the title and will change with each game.

Betting on the Australian NBL can be a fun way to bet on some extra games and try out another basketball league that isn’t the NBA or college basketball. Now that you’re ready to start betting on the Australian NBL odds, head over to the sportsbook and start betting.
