Russia KHL

Overview

The KHL or Kontinental Hockey League is the professional hockey league based out of Russia. The league began in 2008 and consists of international teams from Belarus, China, Finland, Latvia, Kazakhstan, along with 19 Russian teams. There are a total of 24 teams in the KHL and is considered to be the second most popular hockey league behind the National Hockey League.

KHL teams suit up each season with hopes of winning the Gagarin Cup, and for the Russian-based teams, the leader of the 19 teams will be crowned with the ‘Champion of Russia’ title. The KHL is similar to the NHL in that it is divided into Eastern and Western conferences of 12 teams which are then split into divisions of six teams.

WESTERN CONFERENCE

Bobrov Division
Jokerit Helsinki
SKA Saint Petersburg
HC Sochi
Spartak Moscow
Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod
HC Vityaz
Tarasov Division
CSKA Moscow
Dinamo Minsk
Dinamo Riga
Dynamo Moscow
Lokomotiv Yaroslavl
Severstal Cherepovets

EASTERN CONFERENCE

Kharlamov Division
Ak Bars Kazan
Atomobilist Yekaterinburg
Red Star Kunlun
Metallurg Magnitogorsk
Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk
Traktor Chelyabinsk

Chernyshev Division
Admiral Vladivostok
Amur Khabarovsk
Avangard Omsk
Barys Nur-Sultan
Salavat Yulaev Ufa
Sibir Novosibirsk

The regular season structure allows for teams to play each of the other five teams in their division four times, then three games against teams in their conference, and two games against teams from another conference. The top eight teams in either conference head to the playoffs, until we narrow it down to the Championship for the Gagarin Cup. The format for the playoffs and finals is almost identical to the NHL’s Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Russia KHL Betting Guide

Throughout the regular season and the playoffs, you will find a great selection of KHL betting odds, which ultimately will lead you to the real jackpot: the Gagarin Cup. These odds will tell you the likelihood of your bet winning and are important to keep an eye on if you plan to bet on the games. Depending on the odds format you prefer, you may view the odds differently – there are American odds which typically are presented in a +140/-150 format, decimal odds or fractional odds.

When it comes to these KHL odds, you will want to familiarize yourself with the popular betting options you will find on these games. Firstly, you will understand the moneyline wager, which allows you to bet on the winner of a game straight up. When it comes to reading the odds, it will just be straight up – so whichever format you choose – you are simply betting on that outcome.

The point spread line will be set by our oddsmakers, giving the underdog team an imaginary head start of a goal or a few goals, meaning they simply need to win or lose by less than that amount. If you choose the favorite, that team will need to win by more than that amount.

When it comes to betting totals, you will find a bit of a larger number, which is the combined goals for both teams playing. This might be 6.5, and you will choose the over, which means you think there will be more than 7 goals scored total, or the under, which means you think there will be less than six goals scored.

Aside from these popular KHL betting types, you will find some basic props, which can range from team props, player props and game props. These will occur during the game, whether it’s betting on a certain player to score, or how many goals a player might score, to even betting on whether the game will go to a shootout. There are plenty of these KHL prop betting options – not quite as many as you’d find in the NHL but a great selection nonetheless.

Not many online sportsbooks offer odds on the Russian KHL, but luckily, BetUS Sportsbook does! We have a great selection of KHL odds for those who want to bet on more than just the National Hockey League. There can be some great talent and odds offered on the Russian KHL, so you will want to keep an eye on our Russian KHL sportsbook page for the top odds in the United States.
