Bulgaria NBL: Professional Basketball and Betting Opportunities in Europe

The National Basketball League in Bulgaria, or the Bulgaria NBL, is the highest level of professional basketball in the country. The Bulgaria NBL falls under the FIBA Europe confederation and was formed in 2008. The league did exist long before that year, evolving from the Bulgarian A Division that was formed in 1942.

There are ten teams that play in the Bulgarian NBL that compete for the Bulgarian Cup.

The most successful team in the history of the Bulgarian NBL (including the days of the Bulgarian A Division) is a retired team named PBC Academic, who had 26 titles. If you look at these stats in just the new format beginning in 2008, Lukoil Academic/Levski Lukoil is the most successful team with eight titles.

The Bulgarian NBL doesn’t tend to draw huge crowds, their stadiums can only handle between 1,000 and 4,500 spectators depending on the team, and there isn’t a huge fan base for the league in the U.S. However, it is a great basketball betting opportunity for those who want to bet on some lesser known leagues and make some money on some international basketball.

The Bulgarian NBL will have a variety of betting options – not like you’d see in the NBA or NCAA College Basketball, but you would find a great variety of moneylines, totals, and point spreads on these games through the season duration and into the Bulgarian Cup competition.

A great place to start when betting on the Bulgarian NBL is with moneyline odds. These betting options allow you to pick the winner of the game straight up. This is one of the most simple wagers you can place and are a great starting point if you’re new to sports betting. Each team will have odds associated with how likely they are to win the game, and your payout will be dependent on the odds.

With point spreads, you are betting on the favored team to have a slight handicap before the game even begins. You will see the line set and the oddsmakers will have determined a spread they believe that the favored team will win the game by. This number will be shown as a negative number, maybe -11, let’s say, and that team will have to win by more than 11 points. The underdog will have to lose by less than that many points (covering the spread) or win the game outright.

Totals betting allows you to bet on the total number of points both teams score collectively. This is a fun betting option if you don’t really know the teams or have the slightest clue of who might win. You just have to decide if you think the total number of points for both teams added together will be over or under the set line on the sportsbook.

Props might not be as plentiful in the Bulgarian NBL as they would be in the NBA or NCAAB, but you may be able to find a few great value props if you’re lucky! Props allow you to bet on instances that have nothing to do with the final score or outcome of the game. Just fun, quirky props or you can bet on how many points a player may score.

Futures betting allows you to bet on the winner of the Bulgarian Cup, but you will place this wager earlier in the season. This wager is considered to be riskier than game lines because you have a 1/10 chance of being right. If you’re correct, you could be in for a huge payout though!

As long as existing wagers have not been graded, the amount wagered can still be used to make new wagers. However, if your original wager loses, the Rolling If Bet is then cancelled. There are two options for ties (pushes); you can specify if you want the Rolling If Bet to continue in case of a tie or simply cancel the RIF.

Rolling If Bets are:

  • only allowed on straight bets, Parlays and Teasers.
  • not available with Free Plays or Futures and Props
  • only available if you have pre existing, non graded wagers
  • you can only use the funds from the amount of the pre existing wager

How to Place a Rolling If Bet:

  • Choose any straight, parlay or teaser and Place it on the Bet Slip
  • Click on the Rolling If Bet button next to the wager detail
  • In the RIF dropdown, choose a wager that you want to use for RIF
  • Click on "If Win Only" or "If Win or Push" (explained above)
  • Fill in the amount and confirm your wager (the system will not allow you a higher amount than what is available)
