Overview

The Argentina Liga A, or, as it’s commonly referred to as: The Liga Nacional de Basquet, is the National Basketball League of Argentina – the top tier of professional basketball in the Argentine basketball system. The league is approaching 40 years old, after being founded in 1985. The Argentina Liga A was designed to replicate the NBA, which you may know very well, being from North America. The format includes a regular season, playoffs and even an all star game.

The biggest difference from the NBA is that Liga A has a promotion and relegation system as it’s part of a tiered basketball system. There are 20 teams in the Liga A, so the lowest ranking teams will be demoted to the lower divisions and high ranking teams from the second tier are promoted to Liga A at the end of their seasons.
