Grizzlies Favored at Home
The Memphis Grizzlies look to bounce back from a shocking upset against the lowly Houston Rockets when they welcome a familiar foe to the FedEx Forum on Tuesday night. The New Orleans Pelicans will be keen to do the same after they saw their four-game winning streak end at the hands of the Denver Nuggets.
NBA betting markets are firmly cornered with the hosts for this much anticipated Southwest showdown. BetUS sportsbook tips the Grizzlies as the 5 ½-point home chalk. Can the Pelicans orchestrate an upset here?
Pelicans Lose OT Thriller
The New Orleans Pelicans took it to the Denver Nuggets, giving as good as they got before succumbing to a heartbreaking 138-130 loss on the road. The Pelicans closed as the narrow 4½-point road underdogs, but failed to cover the nominal point spread.
The Pelicans went into the weekend’s contest in good form, having won four straight games. They beat the Phoenix Suns 117-102 and the Los Angeles Lakers 123-95 on the road and then the Sacramento Kings 125-95 and the Utah Jazz 124-90 at home. All four were credible wins that underscore New Orleans’ dangerous floaters credentials.
Brandon Ingram had a monster night, putting up 38 points, five rebounds and nine assists. CJ McCollum had 24 points, five rebounds and nine assists while Jonas Valančiūnas added 19 points, 14 rebounds and two assists.

New Orleans sits in 10th place in the Western Conference with a 27-37 record. The Pelicans are 24 games behind conference leaders Phoenix and 16 games adrift of the Grizzlies. More importantly, they’re only two games clear of their nearest rivals, the Portland Trail Blazers, who are outside of the play-in frame.
The Pelicans are 32-31-1 against the spread (ATS) with a 1.4 losing margin on average and a +2.1 differential versus the spread. They are 15-17-0 ATS on the road with a 4.1 losing margin on average and +1.0 differential versus the spread.
Grizzlies Underestimate Rockets
The Houston Rockets stunned the Memphis Grizzlies, beating their high-flying Southwest rivals 123-112 on Sunday night against the NBA odds. The Grizzlies closed as the whopping 10½-point favorites, only to fall well short of market expectations against the league’s worst team.
The Grizzlies started brightly and led the game for the better part of three quarters. But just when it looked like they might have the game in the bag, the hosts flipped the script.
Perhaps, the fact that the Grizzlies were playing their second straight game in as many nights caught up with them in the end. Memphis was outscored by 21 points in the second half at the Toyota Center. The Grizzlies struggled in various aspects of the game, scoring merely 19 percent of 3-pointers, 45 percent overall and 70 percent from the free-throw line.
Desmond Bane led Memphis with 28 points, two rebounds and three assists. Steven Adams added 23 points, 12 rebounds and five assists while Ja Morant put up 22 points, four rebounds and six assists.

Pelicans at Grizzlies Prediction
At the face of it, this is a mismatch between two Southwest Division rivals flanking opposite ends of the conference standings. However, the market stands in stark contrast to the standings and the juxtaposing outputs of the Pelicans and Grizzlies this season.
The Grizzlies are clearly in the ascendancy and home advantage underscores their favorable NBA odds. Then there is the motivation to bounce back and atone for what was an embarrassing defeat to the Rockets that can’t be overlooked. The alternative doesn’t provide good optics – losing to the Rockets and Pelicans in succession.
The Pelicans have a history of playing the Grizzlies tough, including this season after splitting the first two meetings. Importantly, they’re in the playoff hunt and enjoying good form, even though they’re coming off a loss to Denver. Beating the conference-leading Suns along with the Lakers and Jazz shows that the Pelicans can elevate their level of play and serve up upsets. For that reason, they can’t be dismissed out of hand.
All told, this is a right toss-up for NBA picks and predictions. There’s a lot to like about these two sides in the betting, especially as both will be motivated to get back on track. However, the edge goes to the Grizzlies at home to come through with the win and cover.
