Won’t Make a Difference, Though…
We absolutely CANNOT let Knicks fans take over our arena again!!! – Michael Rubin
It’s easy to forget because the Knicks were bad for so long but New York LOVES basketball. There might not be a city that loves basketball more than New York City and that’s something the Philadelphia 76ers are very aware of.

As the Knicks and 76ers face off in the NBA playoffs right now, the New York fans have been taking over the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The drive isn’t too long so it’s not hard for Knicks fans to make the trip.

However, 76ers ownership is not happy about seeing so many Knicks fans and is doing something about it. Fanatics CEO, and Philadelphia native, Michael Rubin announced the NBA news that he’s partnering with Sixers ownership to buy over 2,000 tickets and give them out to fans of the team who are responders and healthcare professionals.
“We absolutely CANNOT let Knicks fans take over our arena again!!! Giving them to first responders, health care professionals and other local Philadelphia-based organizations once we know they’re legit Sixers fans and not imposters!! Let’s go Sixers – we can do this,” said Rubin in his post.
Josh Harris, David Blitzer, @david_adelman and I just bought more than 2,000 tix for Sixers Game 6 – we absolutely CANNOT let Knicks fans take over our arena again!!! Most teams would likely ignore the fact that opposing fans are taking over their court but not the 76ers. It’s kinda funny considering Philadelphia fans are the most obnoxious about how passionate about their sports teams they are but they can’t even muster up the energy to go to a playoff game. I’ll remember this the next time I’m in an argument with a Philadelphia sports fan.
Are the 76ers Cooked?
I think it’s admirable that Rubin would put up a lot of his own money to support his favorite basketball team but who knows if it’ll make much of a difference. They can fit over 21,000 fans in Wells Fargo Center so I don’t know if 2,000 seats is going to make much of a difference.

The Knicks could win the playoff series in Game 6 so New York fans are going to want to be there. However, what really matters is whether or not the 76ers can actually win. I feel like the 76ers roster is better than the Knicks but the team hasn’t had enough time to gel with Joel Embiid missing most of the season with an injury.
It’s looking like this could be the year for the Knicks to make a deep playoff run and the 76ers don’t seem like they have much juice left. Those 2,000 fans who are getting to see a free game are probably going to watch their team lose.
