What’s Next for the King? 👑
The Lakers should go all in on trying to get Ty Lue away from the Clippers…
The Los Angeles Lakers just put a cap on another disappointing season. Outside of the one championship year, LeBron James’ tenure with the team has mostly been underwhelming. The team has missed the NBA playoffs twice, lost in the first round twice, and got swept in the Western Conference Finals last year.

LeBron will be 40 next year and the GOAT debate between Michael Jordan and him still rages on. If he wants to cement himself as the NBA’s GOAT, LeBron winning another championship would help a lot.
However, it’s unclear if he’ll be able to do it in Los Angeles. Rob Pelinka hasn’t proven to be a good general manager and the team is likely to undergo another coaching change this offseason, per NBA rumors. With LeBron having the ability to test free agency this offseason if he wants, it’s going to be a pivotal next couple of months in Los Angeles.

What’s Next for Lakers & LeBron?
The Lakers can’t simply run it back with the same roster and coaching staff. I can’t stomach another D’Angelo Russell playoff performance. From the Lakers’ perspective, they have no choice but to do what they can to keep LeBron unless they want to enter a full rebuild.

If the plan is to keep the future Hall of Famer, the Lakers should go all in on trying to get Ty Lue away from the Clippers. They also need to make some roster changes. I personally don’t think Trae Young is the right move. He’s a little too inefficient for my taste. His teammate Dejounte Murray would be cheaper and a better fit.
“Darvin [Ham] has to go. That’s the one piece to the puzzle that is so utterly replaceable… I think he did a good enough job to keep his job… The problem was when LeBron [James] threw his fit it was so egregious.”

For LeBron, he’s got a big decision to make. The next contract he signs could very much be the last one. He has to decide where he wants to end his career. The Lakers are appealing because he’s got a lot of power in the building and he loves Los Angeles. Does he really want to start over at 40?
Family Time
In his mind, he’s already the GOAT. His son Bronny James could play a factor. Perhaps if Bronny goes to a team like the New York Knicks, maybe that appeals to LeBron. Whatever he does will be a massive NBA news story so he has to choose wisely. In the end, I expect him to sign an extension with the Lakers and hope that they put the team in a position to succeed.
