In the latest NFL news, Jalen Hurts got PAID!

The Philadelphia Eagles inked their Super Bowl LIV QB to a five-year, $255 million contract Monday, which now makes him the player with the most annual earnings in NFL history at 24 years old.

What Does That Contract Look Like Exactly?

According to NFL trade news for starters, it includes a $23,294,000 signing bonus, and $179,300,000 of it is guaranteed. Hurts’ average annual salary will be $51,000,000.

This upcoming season, he will earn a base salary of $4,204,000, in addition to a $100,000 workout bonus.

This deal looks a lot different from his rookie deal which was worth just $6.025 million with a $1.942 million signing bonus and $2.826 million in guaranteed money. But you can’t say that he didn’t earn it.

Hurts was drafted 53rd overall by the Eagles in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft.

Through three seasons in Philly, Hurts has made two playoff appearances, was named to the Pro Bowl, selected as an All-Pro, and was a finalist for the league’s 2022 MVP award.

Not to mention that just this past February, he led the Eagles to the Super Bowl, though they were defeated by the Kansas City Chiefs 38-35.

In fact, the previous record set for the highest annual contract value was by KC’s quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who signed a 10-year, $450 million extension in 2020.

In the latest NFL news and rumors, while Hurts and several other stars got their money this offseason, some players are still waiting on their big payday, including Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Jackson.

Jackson, who officially requested a trade from Baltimore back in March, was offered a deal similar to Jalen’s but he turned it down.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Hensley, Jackson was offered a five-year, $250 million deal that included $133 million guaranteed at signing.

That deal in comparison to Hurts’ contract finally makes Baltimore seem like the good guy in this and puts Jackson in his place.

However, what Jackson wants is more guaranteed money as he is reportedly seeking a guaranteed contract that is worth no less than the $230 million that the Cleveland Browns guaranteed massage-fetish quarterback DeShaun Watson last offseason.

The Browns surely messed that up for other QBs in the future because fully-guaranteed contracts aren’t the road that the rest of the NFL wants to turn down.

If that were the case, then Jackson would have offers lining up all over the place. Now, the Eagles have set a new standard.

You have a young quarterback who is fresh off of a Super Bowl run and finished second in MVP voting who is not asking for that fully-guaranteed contract.

Unlike Jackson, who hasn’t played at the MVP level since 2019, missing 10 games combined over the past two years due to season-ending injuries.

That doesn’t mean Jackson isn’t guaranteed worthy and doesn’t deserve more than the $32 million he’s set to make in 2023. He’s just not fully-guaranteed worthy. No player is.

The Ravens have until mid-July to come to an agreement and sign Jackson to a contract extension.
