Edwards, Timberwolves to Make Even Bettor Statement in Game 3

The Minnesota Timberwolves face the Denver Nuggets in Game 3 with the defending champions down two games to zero in the Best of Seven series. NBA betting markets have the Timberwolves favored to win on Friday and send the Nuggets to the brink of a sweep.

Nikola Jokic earned his third MVP on Wednesday, so it’s up to the league’s best player to get his team pumped for a road win.

Nuggets vs Timberwolves Odds and Spreads

  • The Nuggets are 6-5 ATS this season as the underdog.
  • The Nuggets are 2-5 ATS in the playoffs.
  • The Timberwolves are 6-0 ATS in the playoffs.
  • The Timberwolves are 16-21-2 ATS as the home favorite.
  • The over is 32-29 following a Timberwolves win.

Will the Nuggets Simply Roll Over?

We expected the Timberwolves to make it past the Nuggets, but we didn’t expect the Nuggets to be this poor.

Scoring totals of 99 and 80 isn’t nearly good enough, especially given the depth of their roster, and their experience of winning the NBA championship last season.

The pressure now goes on the Nuggets to pick up a road win, but beating the Timberwolves at Target Center is easier said than done. They have lost only 11 games there, so the +4½ line is warranted.

However, based on the games so far, getting only +4½ points could be seen as bad value. They were smashed by 26 points in Game 2, and Jamal Murray hasn’t shown up.

Jokic has also been below his best, and it could be a case of fatigue. Winning playoff games in consecutive years isn’t easy, so the bubble could be bursting on the dynasty tag in Denver.

They don’t match up well against the Timberwolves, and that’s our main concern. They won’t shoot as poorly as they did in Game 2, where Aaron Gordon was their top scorer, but the early signs aren’t good.

Wolves Putting Hammer Down

There is an insane amount of confidence brimming with the Timberwolves, who have put past transgressions behind them.

Bettors should also have confidence with the home side, who have dispatched the Nuggets with relative ease.

Playing in front of a huge crowd helps their chances of taking a 3-0 lead, and covering the -4½ spread is well within reach.

They have covered the spread in every playoff game, and given the occasion on Friday they should come out red hot.

The MVP chants for Anthony Edwards are likely to ring out, and he could make a mockery of the voting against Jokic. We expect another big game from their scoring leader, who has been helped by Defensive POTY Rudy Gobert, Karl-Anthony Towns, Naz Reid and an ageless Mike Conley.

The defense has been relentless, which is a key to their success.

Rudy’s driven the defensive culture here. I think it’s a testament to his impact, his presence and what he’s infused into the team of how important defense is and how great it can be when we play it,” coach Chris Finch said. “That aside, we expect to win no matter who’s with us and who’s not.

The Wolves are -185 with moneyline odds when betting online, which is a fair price for a team leading 2-0 at home.

Keep Cashing with Timberwolves

Bettors have cashed in with the Timberwolves, so there’s no reason to jump off their back.

They have been a money making machine, and we’re locking in the -4½ line before it potentially moves.

The Nuggets look out of ideas, and although they were once considered the deepest roster in the NBA, the Timberwolves might have taken that honor.

Defense wins NBA playoff games, and it doesn’t get any better than the Timberwolves defense. For that reason, we’re also including under 204½.

The Wolves can score, but the Nuggets average just below 90 points in this series.
