Lay Points with Mavericks vs Grizzlies

This season has not started like the Memphis Grizzlies wanted, and facing a Dallas Mavericks team on the rise will be a tough matchup. However, every game that passes for the Grizzlies is one closer to Ja Morant returning from his 25-game suspension, potentially saving the season. But that does lean the moneylines for the NBA toward the Mavericks?

The Grizzlies picked up a win in their last game, beating the Utah Jazz at home 105-91, which was much needed and ended a four-game losing streak. The Mavericks also got a big win against the Houston Rockets, beating them 121-115, while once again relying on two players.

Grizzlies Roster a Shell of Itself

Memphis’s start to the season is far from what it had hoped for. If anything, a 4-13 start to the season is the worst-case scenario for the Grizzlies. The hope was that they could maintain some stability until Morant returned, but that does not seem possible in NBA odds.

Part of that is the injuries the roster has sustained. Steven Adams and Brandon Clarke came into the season expecting to miss the time or the entirety of 2023-24. However, Marcus Smart, Xavier Tillman Sr., Jake LaRavia and Luke Kennard have all been injured recently, making things challenging for the Grizzlies.

On top of that, while Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr. have played well, they have not elevated their game to the extent the Grizzlies need to replace Morant’s production. Both played well in the win over the Jazz, with Jackson leading the team in scoring with 20 while adding six rebounds and six blocks. Bane also played well, with 17 points and nine assists.

The rest of the starting lineup, which won’t shift any NBA lines, also had a good game. Derrick Rose had 14 points and nine assists while David Roddy was second in scoring at 19. Ziaire Williams also had 15 points off the bench to help get the win. However, this is far from an elite lineup, backed by the Grizzlies having the worst offensive rating (105.9) in the league.

Mavs Still Reliant On Stars

On the other hand, the Mavericks find themselves near the top of the Western Conference with an 11-6 record, which is not what NBA predictions thought this team would be. After last season’s late collapse, the Mavericks were seen as an afterthought compared to all the other Western Conference competitors.

However, the Mavericks are proving that wrong, helped out by one of the elite offenses in the NBA. Dallas is fifth in points per game (119.5) and offensive rating (119), making it one of the top offenses in the league. The All-Star backcourt of Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving is a massive reason for that.

Both were fully displayed in the win over the Rockets, especially Dončić. He scored 41 points, finishing the game with a near triple-double with nine rebounds and nine assists. Irving also had a solid game, finishing with 27 points and five assists, but the main story remained Dončić.

The Mavericks will only win as many games as Dončić and Irving can carry the team to victory, which makes them a hard team for NBA picks. No one else in the starting lineup outside of those two were in double-figure scoring in the win over the Rockets.

Grizzlies vs Mavericks Betting Lines

Grizzlies vs Mavericks Best Bet

The Grizzlies do not have the players on the court to beat a team like the Mavericks. There are too many injuries and young players getting solid minutes for the Grizzlies for them to be truly competitive with one of the top teams in the West.

Even though the Mavericks have a lot of issues, this is a game in which they should have the upper hand, relying on Dončić and Irving to get the win. This game could be a problematic option for NBA over under predictions on Dec. 1, because the Grizzlies’ offense is not good while the Mavericks can put up points, making it potentially lopsided.

NBA Best Bet: Mavericks -9½ -110
