Head-to-Head

The history of the series between the Atlanta Falcons and Green Bay Packers dates to 1966, a game the Packers won 56-3. Since that point, the series has been much closer, with the Packers holding an 18-16 edge.

The most recent stretch has featured the Falcons winning three of four, although Green Bay took the four games prior to that, dating to the 2011 season.

Last Game

It’s been a tough early stretch for the Atlanta Falcons, with their last two losses coming in the form of fourth-quarter comebacks by the Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears. In the 30-26 loss to the Bears, quarterback Nick Foles took over for Chicago to fuel the comeback.

Atlanta was without wide receiver Julio Jones in that game due to injury, but WR Calvin Ridley stepped in with five catches for 110 yards.

Stats Pack

Jones’ status will be a major talking point, but he was able to get some practice time in during the week. If Atlanta wants to keep pace with Green Bay’s high-octane offense, it will need quarterback Matt Ryan, Jones, and Ridley to all hit their stride quickly.

Running back Todd Gurley, who rushed for 80 yards and one touchdown in Week 3, will also be a name to watch.

Last Game

The Packers have boasted the second-best offense in the NFL in terms of yards per game, so Atlanta will have its work cut out for it. During Green Bay’s 37-30 victory over the New Orleans Saints, the absence of top wide receiver Davante Adams wasn’t felt horribly, as wide receiver Allen Lazard posted stellar marks of six catches for 146 yards and one touchdown.

Green Bay will be without Lazard in Week 4 due to injury. Adams’ status remains uncertain, but he appears unlikely to play as well.

Stats Pack

The Packers are likely to be shorthanded at wide receiver, leaving multiple tight ends and a few hit-or-miss wide receivers as the go-to options for Aaron Rodgers. Following Adams’ injury and Lazard’s big game, it was Rober Tonyan (five catches, 50 yards, one touchdown), Jace Sternberger (three catches, 36 yards), and Marcedes Lewis (18 yards, one touchdown) who led the way.

Betting on the Game

Point Spread

Although the Falcons could easily be 2-1, the Packers’ strong play through three games is enough to rightfully make them a touchdown favorite at home. Atlanta will have a tall task going to Lambeau and picking up a win, especially when factoring in that Green Bay is averaging 40.7 points per game, and the Falcons have allowed 36.0 points per game.

Moneyline

The moneyline is probably worth avoiding in this spot unless you’re backing the Falcons at a big number. Green Bay’s odds aren’t going to be worth your while to wager much on, and there’s too much risk involved in that play.

Over/Under

Both the Packers and Falcons have gone 3-0 to the over this year, which should make this a high-scoring affair. A total of 56½ is tough to bite on, though, as one slow quarter could result in the under hitting fairly easily on Monday Night Football.
