Winnipeg a Strong Fave In 18th Banjo Bowl
Sworn enemies get to do it all over again, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers hosting the Saskatchewan Roughriders Saturday afternoon in the 18th “Banjo Bowl”. The CFL football odds peg “The Peg” as huge favorites at over a touchdown, which is the biggest numnber they’ve been in a long time. However, after this Labor Day Classic’s results, who might wager against Winnipeg?

Roughriders Tripping Over Own Feet
Saskatchewan did start hot against Winnipeg, but limited a single point in the second half. Cody Fajardo and the offense had many opportunities to rally the troops, but could not capitalize. Fajardo wasn’t bad, completing 23-of-32 passes for 292 yards. His late interception summarizes how he and the Riders have been recently.
Eight of the quarterback’s 10 picks this season came in his last half-dozen games. Saskatchewan’s 1-5 in this span, and 2-5 since starting the season at 4-1. In his defense, Fajardo’s been battling injuries.
The Riders have also been undisciplined. Penalties cost this team the game as much as turnovers, having surrendered 99 yards (11 infractions). With the CFL season in the second half, Saskatchewan needs to improve.
Collaros Banjo Bowl Perfectionist
Fajardo’s counterpart is Zach Collaros, who has kept it going for the Blue Bombers. The Grey Cup MVP is having another fine season in 2022. With Collaros, Winnipeg is able to make big plays when they matter. They’re not eye-popping numbers oj the shee, but when the game is on the line, bet online on Collaros to deliver.
Conversely, the Winnipeg defense continues to be a puzzle which most teams can’t solve. Heading to Labor Day, the unit ranked first in points allowed and touchdowns against. This despite Winnipeg being no higher than third in many other categories.
“Bend, don’t break,” as the Blue Bomber defense keeps opponents out of the end zone, With their continued play, Collaros is operating with less pressure than his opponents. He will look to go 3-0 in the Banjo Bowl.
Roughriders vs Blue Bombers Head-to-Head
Winnipeg has a sizable edge over Saskatchewan in recent meetings. In their last 10, Winnipeg is 8-2, 7-3 against the spread (ATS). All 10 have gone under the total, as defenses continued to dominate. Winnipeg limited the Riders to an average of 13.3 points per game. In the Banjo Bowl, Winnipeg has won five of the last six.

Roughriders vs Blue Bombers Prediction
Saskatchewan has historically lorded over Winnipeg. That hasn’t been the case recently. Winnipeg has the better quarterback, the better defense and is better coached, too. Fajardo will have to play better, as he did against the BC Lions, if Saskatchewan is to have a shot. Despite that, Collaros is 5-0 vs his old team since joining Winnipeg.
As far as the online sports betting lines are concerned, 7½ points is a lot. Note that Winnipeg has beaten Saskatchewan by 15 or more points in its last three Banjo Bowl victories. Go under. Winnipeg will continue to stonewall Saskatchewan at the end zone.
