The Yankees thought they had escaped Fenway Park with a rally in the ninth and two runs in the 10th inning to avoid a sweep by the Red Sox. Not so fast. Boston scored three runs in the bottom half of the 10th to take a 5-4 win. Now, the Yankees head home to face the Tigers on Monday. The Tigers will go with Casey Mize against Ryan Weathers.
They are +126 in MLB odds with the home team at -140. Mize lost his last start to the Yankees, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing four runs. Not a horrible effort, but one that shows why he is 2-5 with a 2.95 ERA. So much was expected from him as a phenom. Weathers is 3-5 with a 3.95 ERA.
The feeling is that the Yankees are still not out of their slump, and they could be vulnerable here. This team is second in MLB futures and is now out of first place.
