Both squads fell on the road in Week 17 as the Chiefs were downed by the Cincinnati Bengals 34-31, while the Broncos were demolished by the Los Angeles Chargers 34-13.
NFL Betting lines opened with the Chiefs at -10½ and the point total at 43½.
It was a disappointing finish for the Chiefs as they fell to the second seed in the playoff picture after losing to the Bengals. Kansas City shouldn’t worry too much about the offense as the Chiefs didn’t turn the ball over and collected 31 points.
Patrick Mahomes looked sharp, throwing two touchdowns and leading the Chiefs to 414 total yards. The rushing attack added 155 yards on the ground and two scores from Darrell Williams.
Defensively, the Chiefs had a rough outing as they conceded 34 points and 475 yards of offense to the Bengals. Kansas City did pick up four sacks and has been one of the better defenses down the stretch after a collapse in the first half of the season.
Despite this, they had no answer for Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase, who connected 11 times for 266 yards and three touchdowns.
Similarly, the Denver Broncos have owned a top-ten defense in the league despite injuries, trades, and other challenges.
Yet, the defense disappointed as it was shredded by Justin Herbert and the Chargers. Denver conceded 34 points and 341 yards while picking up just one sack and forcing zero turnovers.
Offensively, the Broncos have been one of the worst in the league, and they showcased that on Sunday, going 3 of 11 on third-down conversions.
The offense managed only 319 yards and is averaging just 19.4 points while being held to 13 points or less for three straight games.
