The Miami Dolphins (3-1) look to shake off their first loss of the season by traveling to the Meadowlands Sunday and a date against the AFC East-rival New York Jets. New York is a surprising 2-2 thus far. Miami will be playing without quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, after suffering his second head injury in less than a week. There’s no timetable on a return, so it’s veteran Teddy Bridgewater with the assignment.

Miami Dolphins
The team announced earlier this week that Tagovailoa would miss this Week 5 game, and perhaps more. He suffered a scary head injury in the Week 4 loss at the Cincinnati Bengals. Many contend that he shouldn’t have been in the game to start, after suffering a potential concussion just four days earlier in their previous game. Bridgewater is now the man as Miami hits the road.
This will be an issue if Bridgewater plays the way he did in his first two appearances this season. He went 0-of-2 when Tua went down briefly in Week 3, 14-of-23 in relief against the Bengals. He’s had one touchdown pass and one interception (193 yards) this season, a downgrade after Tua led Miami to a 3-0 record (1,035 yards passing) in 3½ games.
While things could be better in Miami, bettors may be happier with Bridgewater. As a starter, he has a phenomenal 24-6 spread record on the road. Perhaps the bookmakers regularly underestimate him.
New York Jets
While the Dolphins are without their quarterback; the Jets have bigger issues at hand. Despite a .500 record out of the gate, they aren’t a good football team. A winless (0-4) start would have been their fate, but two late-game road victories (Cleveland and Pittsburgh) altered that scenario. Both those home teams crumbled late,
New York ranks 25th in scoring defense, having surrendered more than 25 points per game. Things aren’t much better on offense, with 19 points per game and one of the worst rushing attacks in the league. The Dolphins, meanwhile, have one of the top rushing defenses. This will force the Jets into a one-dimensional offense. They pass more than any other team in the league and thus are becoming quite predictable.
Quarterback Zach Wilson had a very good fourth quarter (10-of-12, 128 yards, one touchdown) against the Steelers. He struggled much of Sunday’s game, however. It was the sort of performance that can inspire a team, but we need to see more consistency before trusting him or Gang Green.

Dolphins vs Jets Prediction
There’s trouble In Miami with Tua indefinitely out of action. Miami couldn’t have picked a better opponent than the Jets, a suspect 2-2 with a very one-dimensional offense.
