This Week's Top MLB Games to Bet on

Season Heads Down the Home Stretch

Los Angeles Dodgers at Pittsburgh Pirates Betting Analysis

If only dreams could come true. However, they wonโ€™t in this series between the NL West-leading Dodgers and the NL Central cellar-dwelling Pirates. Shohei Ohtani is scheduled to pitch on Thursday, but his opponent will be Brandon Ashcraft and not Paul Skenes, who is not listed in this series. That would have been almost the ultimate in pitching matchups.

The Dodgers figure to have a serious edge in MLB odds in every game of this series. The stakes are higher as LA looks to wrap up another NL West crown. In the Dodgers-Pirates series, I hate to state the obvious, but the road team should dominate, going with the Dodgers’ moneyline odds against Pittsburgh.

New York Yankees at Houston Astros Betting Analysis

Now this is a series that merits high stakes as teams finish out the final month of the regular season. Donโ€™t go overboard that the Yankees have shaken their woes. They played the Nationals and White Sox last week.

The Astros are doing their best to stay ahead of the Mariners in the AL West. A game that seems prime to go under when it comes to Yankees vs Astros run line odds is Tuesday, when Max Fried is scheduled to face Framber Valdez. Go under and look for Valdez and the home team to come away with a key victory.

Washington Nationals at Chicago Cubs Betting Analysis

Look for the Cubbies to enjoy a weekend feast against the Nationals at Wrigley Field over the weekend. Washington is playing out the string, big time. The Cubs are looking at the NL Wild-Card race with the Brewers getting smaller and smaller ahead of them.

The series starts Friday, and expect the pitchers to get tattooed by the hitters. This could be one of the games to bet on the MLB at BetUS when it comes to the Nationals-Cubs run line odds.

Neither projected starting pitcher is great, and that means the batters should be running the bases with great regularity.

San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies Betting Analysis

Instead of key matchups in the final month, somehow the MLB schedule has the Dodgers and Padres each playing last-place teams. MLB odds will not make San Diego a tempting play at Colorado, which is about as equally bad at home as on the road.

Here is how tough it is to suggest a Rockies play on the moneyline. While San Diegoโ€™s starter is undecided on Saturday, Coloradoโ€™s is Tanner Gordon, and he has an ERA North of 6. Go with the over in this series as both teams should score plenty of runs.

Milwaukee Brewers at Pittsburgh Pirates Betting Analysis

The Pirates are in last place, but they still have Paul Skenes. Bet on the MLB on Saturday when it comes to the home team in what should be a dazzling pitching matchup. The big right-hander goes against Brandon Woodruff if the scheduled starters take the mound. Woodruff is 5-1 with a 3.10 ERA in nine starts for Milwaukee in 2025.

Skenes is 9-9 with an ungodly 2.05 ERA on a terrible team. The play in this matchup has to be the under when it comes to Brewers vs Pirates run line odds. The Brewers did get to Skenes for four runs in four innings in Milwaukee on Aug. 12. They wonโ€™t have similar success here.

How to Bet on MLB Odds

The typical ways to bet on MLB games are like most team sports. There is against the spread, where a team has to win by more runs than it is favored by or lose by less than it is the underdog.

There is the moneyline where you are betting on your team to win the game. Sounds simple, right? It isnโ€™t because odds teeter and there is no guarantee an upset wonโ€™t happen. Then there is the total where you are betting whether a game will go over or under a certain number of runs. There are many MLB games every night โ€“ and sometimes during the day โ€“ so one can do their work and find the perfect spot to make a wager on the game of their choice.

MLB Moneyline Betting:ย Pick the outright winner, no spreads involved. Example: If the Yankees (-140) face the Red Sox (+120), betting $140 on the Yankees wins $100 if they win, while a $100 bet on the Red Sox returns $120 if they win.

MLB Spreads (Run Lines): MLB spreads are called Run Lines, typically set at ยฑ1.5 runs. Example: If the Dodgers -1.5 beat the Mets by 2+ runs, the bet wins. If the Mets +1.5 lose by 1 run or win outright, the bet wins.

MLB Totals (Over/Under Bets): Bet on the combined total runs of a game. Example: If the total for Cubs vs. Phillies is 8.5, an Over bet wins if 9+ runs are scored, while an Under bet wins if 8 or fewer runs are scored.

MLB Player & Game Prop Bets: Bet on specific players or game events beyond just the final score. Examples:

  • Player Prop: If Aaron Judgeโ€™s total home runs line is set at 1.5, an Over bet wins if he hits 2 or more home runs, while an Under bet wins if he hits 1 or none.
  • Game Prop: If a bet is on “Will the Yankees score first?”, the wager wins if the Yankees score before their opponent.

First 5 Innings Lines (F5 Bets):ย Bet on the outcome of the gameโ€™s first five innings, focusing on starting pitchers and early scoring. Examples:

  • F5 Moneyline: If the Braves F5 Moneyline is -150 against the Cubs, the bet wins if the Braves are leading after five innings. If the score is tied or the Cubs are ahead, the bet loses.
  • F5 Run Line:ย  If the Yankees -0.5 (F5) are playing the Red Sox, the Yankees must be leading after five innings for the bet to win. If tied or lost, the bet loses.
  • F5 Over/Under:ย  If the F5 total for Dodgers vs. Phillies is 4.5, an Over bet wins if 5+ runs are scored in the first five innings, while an Under bet wins if 4 or fewer runs are scored.
