NBA Season Awards Odds 2024

What Are the Season Awards About?

In an NBA season, there are multiple incredible individual performances by players. While most of the season is focused on team success and winning a championship, players have their own set of awards to be acknowledged. That is what the NBA Season Awards are for – to validate the players who had incredible seasons.

While the NBA Most Valuable Player is the most recognizable award, it is far from the only one. There is an award for the top coach, best bench player, best defender and most improved player. Each award has a different set of criteria that needs to be met, and players compete for them based on regular season stats as well as individual and team success.

On top of that, the winners of these awards can also be bet on. There are NBA lines created for every award and feature odds on players to win. It adds more options to build the best parlays around players and teams.

How do Season Awards Work?

NBA odds awards are very similar to other future bets. When selecting a future prop on a team to win the 2023-24 NBA championship, the format is very similar to that used when determining picks for awards.

There is a list of players, with odds built based on their stats within the season and how the team is doing. While team success can often be a factor for some awards, it might not matter as much with others, which is crucial to understand for NBA betting.

The favorites for the award will have lower odds, leading to smaller payouts due to their better chance of winning. On the other hand, the underdogs will have higher odds and a lower chance of winning but a much bigger payout if the bet is won.

During the season, the NBA selects 100 media members to be the voters for all awards. After the season finishes, those voters submit their ballots, ranking players for each award based on what they did in the regular season.

Betting Strategy

With MVP being the popular option for NBA betting, it also has the highest chance of a favorite winning the award. More often than not, the award goes to the best player on one of the best teams. Those can often be predictable, and only a handful of players in the league are good enough to be in the conversion to win the award.

However, with other awards, it is very different. Underdogs have a much bigger chance of winning Coach of the Year or Most Improved Players. Those NBA lines have the potential to have the biggest payout because there is a bigger chance of a lesser-known player or coach winning the award.

Something crucial to also keep in mind is that these awards are voted upon. Sometimes, the media can play a significant role in the players that win the award. More often than not, some voters will have biases affecting how they vote, so knowing the past winners of awards can help a bettor figure out the next potential winner.

How to Bet on NBA Season Awards Odds 2024

Most Valuable Player

Despite the MVP being the biggest and most well-known award during the NBA regular season, it often has the fewest variables for a winner. Players like Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Joel Embiid and Luka Doncic have dominated the league for several years and always come up in the MVP conversation. NBA odds favor them because they are the best players in the league and on good teams, making them clear options.

Coach Of The Year

Coach of the Year is where NBA lines can get slightly more complicated. Two types of coaches tend to win the award. The first is the team with the best record in the league. For example, the Phoenix Suns in 2021-22, when Monty Williams won the award by leading his team to a 64-18 record.

However, the other option is a team that no one thought would be good but ended up having an outstanding season. In 2022-23, Mike Brown won the award, leading the Sacramento Kings to a 48-34 record and finishing third in the Western Conference. Before the season started, NBA betting had the Kings as a fringe playoff team, but Brown was given the award for bringing the team to a level few people expected.

Most Improved Player

Most Improved Player is another award that can get complicated. It is usually given to a few different types of players. One example would be going from being a great player to a potential MVP candidate, like Ja Morant in 2021-22. Another option is improving significantly over an offseason, like Lauri Markkanen in 2022-23, who went from 14.8 points per game to 25.6. Another possible example is Pascal Siakam in 2018-19. He was trusted with more minutes throughout the season and found success, going from a back-of-the-bench player to a starter.

All those different examples make NBA lines for Most Improved Player a little more difficult. Many players could fall into this category, which often depends on how the voters feel about a particular season.

Defensive Player Of The Year

Defensive Player of the Year does get a little more straightforward. The award often goes to the best big on one of the top defensive teams in the league. Often, one of the main stats to look at is blocks and what teams are projected to have the best defensive rating. Defense is hard to quantify, so the award tends to go to the best defender on the best defensive team.

On top of that, it almost always goes to a big. Only one guard won the award in the last 25 years: Marcus Smart in 2021-22.

Clutch Player Of The Year

This is a new award and will be difficult to predict in NBA betting. The first year of the Clutch Player of the Year award was given out in 2022-23 to De’Aaron Fox. Part of it was his ability to score a lot of points in the fourth quarter while also making a lot of game-winning shots. That is incredibly hard to predict, given that players do not regularly get game-winning attempts.

Sixth Man Of The Year

Sixth Man of the Year is another award that NBA odds have a pretty good grasp on, especially once the season starts. The award almost always goes to the highest bench scorer in the league. Another factor to remember is it is the best bench player on one of the top teams. If a player is often in the closing lineup despite not starting, it is also a crucial indicator.

NBA Rookie Of The Year

Rookie of the Year is another award that can have some variance, but not a lot. NBA lines tend to always lean toward top draft picks, and nearly all Rookies of the Year winners have been lottery picks. This award focuses more on individual stats than how the rookie helps the team improve.
