Tournament Tips This Week
The Teams to Beat Are …
March Madness odds won’t clear up the bracket for anyone. This is a wide-open field. Duke (+300), Arizona (+375), and Michigan (+375) are the elite.
There had to be a fourth top seed, and that went to Florida (+750). That is how scrambled the picture is. After conference tournaments, it seemed like no one truly wanted that fourth top spot.
Everyone in consideration found a way to lose. Florida was clobbered by Vanderbilt, UConn was blitzed by St. John’s, and so on. Heck, one could have made a case for Houston (+1100), which only lost to Arizona by five points in the Big 12 tournament final.
Now is the time to examine the current odds to win March Madness. There will be First Four games on Tuesday and Wednesday. However, once the NCAA tournament starts, the field will shrink, and the teams considered the best in the bracket will likely see odds tumble as they march through an early-round game against an overmatched opponent.
Examine the bracket and decipher which of the teams have been playing well – St. John’s (+7000), for one – and who could offer a nice price to win the championship. One of the nicest things about the Big Dance is that there are so many teams in it that there are great March Madness futures odds on teams to play for, which one will win it.
Live Longshots
The college basketball odds tell everyone the top three teams have a clear edge in the race to win the championship.
That doesn’t mean they have to or will win the title. So what others are intriguing in the NCAA futures market? Purdue seemed to play itself out of the picture, but caught fire in the Big Ten tournament and beat Michigan to win it.
The Boilermakers are +2500, and this is a team that once was No. 1 in the country.
Gonzaga has another 30-win season for coach Mark Few.
There have been better Bulldog teams, but at some point, don’t they have to win it all? Could Few do it this year, or is his program destined to be one of the stronger ones in the country in NCAAB picks and parlays throughout time, but can’t close the deal?
Like St. John’s, Virginia is +7000. It battled Duke to the finish in the ACC tournament final, and a couple of breaks here or there, and it could have won that game.
If enough breaks go the way of the Cavaliers, could they win their second championship? Remember, part of the beauty of the futures market is the ability to find a profit while playing multiple teams.
Playing Schools to Make It to Final Four
BetUS also has college basketball lines for teams to gain the Final Four.
That means the school one bets on has to win the regional. The Midwest sets up as a two-team scramble between Michigan (-130) and Iowa State (+235). Virginia, which was mentioned above, pops at +1000. That’s just to gain the Final Four, remember.
The three teams with the shortest odds in the West are Arizona (-120), Purdue (+345), and Gonzaga (+450). Does anyone think Arkansas, which won the SEC tournament for John Calipari, will continue its hot hand? It is +1100 to get to Indianapolis.
The South is more wide open when it comes to current March Madness odds to make it to the Final Four. Florida is +170, Houston +225, and Illinois +300.
And, in the East, the toughest regional by far, Duke is -135. That is a low price in a section that has all sorts of talented squads. UConn, which was blown out by St. John’s in the Big East final, is +600, Michigan State +700, and St. John’s +800.

You can certainly bet on futures for top teams that will be listed to win the title outright, but you need to remember how risky those wagers will be.

Betting on March Madness
March Madness is one of the most popular events in the world to wager on and saw more than $3 billion in action in 2024. More than 15% of the US population bets on March Madness because it is the most exciting month in American sports.
Between play-in games and the National Championship Game, there are a ton of games to wager on and a ton of profit to be made.
Bettors are not locked into head-to-head matchups and can also bet on the outright winner, which teams make the Sweet 16 or Elite Eight, or predict the exact teams to make the finals.
A fan favorite bet is to try and predict one of the rare upsets that occur every tournament. Picking a massive ML upset is a great way to build a bankroll fast in March Madness.
