This Week's Top MLB Games to Bet on

Final Week of August Brings Key Series

Washington Nationals at New York Yankees Odds

The New York Yankees are in full-fledged freefall. Once in control of the AL East, the Bronx Bombers find themselves scrambling for a wild-card spot. If they are going to recoup, this is the week.

The Yankees face the Washington Nationals at home before going to Chicago for a series against the White Sox. MLB odds will certainly have the Yankees favored in almost every game, if not every tilt.

Let the bettor beware, as the Bombers are fizzling. The Yankees could be a strong play against either team when it comes to the Nationals vs Yankees run line odds. It has come to that. The Yankees canโ€™t be trusted.

Pittsburgh Pirates at Boston Red Sox Odds

This series will provide another test for Paul Skenes, the Piratesโ€™ superstar righthander. On Friday, he is scheduled to pitch against Dustin May and the Red Sox at Fenway Park. Coors Field humbled Skenes.

Will the Green Monster do the same? When looking to bet on the MLB, this could be a game where the home team gets some nice odds because of the matchup. The Pirates vs Red Sox moneyline odds are something to keep an eye for because of the presence of Skenes.

San Diego Padres at Seattle Mariners Odds

Teams in the thick of the playoff scramble meet in the great Northwest. The Padres are trying to remain ahead of the Dodgers in the NL West. The Mariners are attempting to remain close to the Astros in the AL West while keeping an eye on the standings for the wild-card picture.

Seattle has struggled of late, while San Diego has been treading the equator with wins and losses. When it comes to the Padres-Mariners matchup on Tuesday, look for there to be plenty of runs as neither Dylan Cease nor Luis Castillo, the scheduled pitchers, has been going great in 2025. Go with the over on the Padres vs Mariners run line odds in this one.

Cincinnati Reds at Los Angeles Dodgers Betting Analysis

Many expected the Dodgers to be in the playoff race. In fact, the defending World Champions were supposed to run away with the NL West. Hasnโ€™t happened. The Reds are playing far better than expected and are in the wild-card battle.

On Tuesday, look for the road team to have tempting odds as Nick Martinez duels Shohei Ohtani. Remember, the great Japanese slugger/pitcher took a baseball off his leg in his last start. Will he be 100%? This could be a great chance to take Cincinnati on the Reds vs Dodgers moneyline odds.

Chicago Cubs at Colorado Rockies Betting Odds

The Cubs once had their way in the NL Central. Not anymore, and now they have to do everything to stay without shouting distance of the Brewers. The Rockies are not within shouting distance of anyone.

This series at Coors Field over the weekend figures to be a delight for those who like runs. Expect the hitters to feast and the Cubs vs the Rockies run line odds to be the play as the Cubs catch the awful Rockies.

How to Bet on MLB Odds

The typical ways to bet on MLB games are like most team sports. There is against the spread, where a team has to win by more runs than it is favored by or lose by less than it is the underdog.

There is the moneyline where you are betting on your team to win the game. Sounds simple, right? It isnโ€™t because odds teeter and there is no guarantee an upset wonโ€™t happen. Then there is the total where you are betting whether a game will go over or under a certain number of runs. There are many MLB games every night โ€“ and sometimes during the day โ€“ so one can do their work and find the perfect spot to make a wager on the game of their choice.

MLB Moneyline Betting:ย Pick the outright winner, no spreads involved. Example: If the Yankees (-140) face the Red Sox (+120), betting $140 on the Yankees wins $100 if they win, while a $100 bet on the Red Sox returns $120 if they win.

MLB Spreads (Run Lines): MLB spreads are called Run Lines, typically set at ยฑ1.5 runs. Example: If the Dodgers -1.5 beat the Mets by 2+ runs, the bet wins. If the Mets +1.5 lose by 1 run or win outright, the bet wins.

MLB Totals (Over/Under Bets): Bet on the combined total runs of a game. Example: If the total for Cubs vs. Phillies is 8.5, an Over bet wins if 9+ runs are scored, while an Under bet wins if 8 or fewer runs are scored.

MLB Player & Game Prop Bets: Bet on specific players or game events beyond just the final score. Examples:

  • Player Prop: If Aaron Judgeโ€™s total home runs line is set at 1.5, an Over bet wins if he hits 2 or more home runs, while an Under bet wins if he hits 1 or none.
  • Game Prop: If a bet is on “Will the Yankees score first?”, the wager wins if the Yankees score before their opponent.

First 5 Innings Lines (F5 Bets):ย Bet on the outcome of the gameโ€™s first five innings, focusing on starting pitchers and early scoring. Examples:

  • F5 Moneyline: If the Braves F5 Moneyline is -150 against the Cubs, the bet wins if the Braves are leading after five innings. If the score is tied or the Cubs are ahead, the bet loses.
  • F5 Run Line:ย  If the Yankees -0.5 (F5) are playing the Red Sox, the Yankees must be leading after five innings for the bet to win. If tied or lost, the bet loses.
  • F5 Over/Under:ย  If the F5 total for Dodgers vs. Phillies is 4.5, an Over bet wins if 5+ runs are scored in the first five innings, while an Under bet wins if 4 or fewer runs are scored.
