Would mention Dylan Harper, too, but the rookie was only 5-of-18 from the field while scoring 13 points and grabbing 9 rebounds.
On the Knicks’ side, one has to wonder about Jalen Brunson, who winds up with big numbers but still shoots less than 50% from the field. He had 32 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 turnovers. The Knicks’ guard either dominates the offense, leaving teammates stagnant or tries to find them will little time left to execute. He has not been the player who led New York this far in the first three games. Josh Hart remains a player who can deliver in multiple categories, too.
The 3-point shot is becoming the death of the NBA game. The Spurs shot 35% on 12 made 3s and the Knicks were at the same number on 13. One has to wonder when a coach is going to think about having his team try and drive to the hoop and stop looking inside out to find teammates beyond the arc. Wemby makes that a problem for any team playing San Antonio but poor 3-pointing tends to cost teams more than it helps throughout the season.

It was only one game and the Knicks still lead but there is an ominous feeling. San Antonio started fast, took the Knicks’ best shot, and managed to get a win on the road. This is a team that doesn’t stop for 48 minutes.
The pressure is all on New York in Game 4. NBA odds have the Knicks as 2-point favorites but it would not be surprising if the line swung in the other direction before tipoff. The Spurs didn’t shake or rattle the Knicks. What they did was beat them up and still somehow wind up the benefactors of most foul calls.
New York has to come up with a solution to someone other than Brunson dominating the ball. Possession after possession in the second half he had it for what seemed like 18-20 seconds before having to take a shot in traffic or give the ball to a teammate who took a desperation heave.
The Knicks’ win streak is over and the Spurs are back in The Finals. This might be a great time to get in on NBA betting odds on who will win the series and even try to nail the Spurs in six. Wembanyama has the look of The Finals MVP. It will take a magnificent effort from someone else to wrest that from him no matter the result.
